Composite Index Methodology

The Arizona Stress Index (0–100) is calculated using a weighted average of five Min-Max normalized components. Each raw metric is scaled to 0–100 before weighting, ensuring that no single data source dominates due to differences in unit scale.

ComponentSourceWeight
Frequent Mental DistressCDC PLACES 2025 [1]35%
HPSA Shortage ScoreHRSA Q4 2024 [2]25%
Housing InsecurityCDC PLACES 2025 [1]15%
Uninsured Rate (18–64)CDC PLACES 2025 [1]15%
Depression PrevalenceCDC PLACES 2025 [1]10%

Normalization formula: Score = (Value − Min) / (Max − Min) × 100, applied per metric across all 15 Arizona counties.
